Natural, Lab-Grown and Simulated Stones Need Proper Identification
A natural diamond, a laboratory-grown diamond and a diamond simulant can look similar without appropriate testing. They do not have the same resale market.
A valuation should first establish what the stone is, then assess its quality and demand. Certification can help, but documents should match the stone presented.
Laser inscriptions, measurements and report numbers may be checked when relevant. Treatments, chips, abrasions, fluorescence and replacement stones can also affect the final assessment.
